With funding from charitable donors, MiraKind is ready to distribute COVID-19 tests for free to essential workers on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic, with a focus on healthcare workers providing direct patient care and first responders.
MiraKind, is the nonprofit partner of MiraDx, a molecular diagnostics company founded in 2009 to advance the field of personalized genetic medicine. Recognizing an opportunity to help address the testing shortage crisis, MiraDx’s co-founder and MiraKind’s founder, Joanne Weidhass, and her team transitioned MiraDx’s CLIA-certified lab over to process 3,000 COVID-19 tests per day, with plans to scale up to 10,000 per day in the coming weeks. MiraDx’s designation as a high complexity molecular diagnostics lab means that it can conduct PCR testing, a highly sensitive approach that results in 90%+ accuracy in COVID-19 testing.
“MiraDx and MiraKind are in a unique position to contribute technology and expertise to support the many thousands of dedicated and fearless caregivers and other essential professionals who are literally risking their own lives to protect ours during this pandemic,” said Dr. Joanne Weidhaas, co-founder of MiraDx and founder of MiraKind.org.
